What doesn’t save anyone-Believe and be saved.
Repenting of sins, turn from sins, surrendering one’s life to Christ, cleaning up one’s act/life, making a commitment to Christ, following Christ going to church, reading your Bible, being baptized, having a church membership, paying your tithes and offerings, being a good and exemplary citizen in society are NOT the Gospel, and do not/cannot eternally justify a person. These are all good things, but are works that cannot save. These things do not and cannot atone for anyone’s shortcomings, mistakes, sins, trespasses, iniquities, etc. God is perfect.
None of us is perfect. That is why we need someone else’s perfection to save us. God offers this to us in the finished work of His Son, Jesus Christ. We are to look at Jesus the Savior alone in faith to be saved eternally and enter heaven. He saves us by His grace not by our works (Ephesians 2:8-9) After we believe Him for His gift to us, then, a believer should grow, should learn to love the Lord, should obey God’s Word, should walk in the Spirit to not fulfill the lusts of the flesh, etc….. these are things that a already saved believer should do, but they are not guaranteed outcomes, so are not to be thought of as proof one is saved, proof one continues to be saved, or as a means to be saved. Only Jesus saves. We have nothing to offer.
The only condition God asks of unbelievers to be justified to go to heaven is that they believe the Gospel. This is a one time occurrence and cannot ever be lost because His gift is eternal life; not probation.
We DO NOT give our lives to Christ to be saved. We accept/believe that He gave His life up for us on the cross and rose from the dead in His great love for the world/us sinners.
When a hearer hears the Gospel of Jesus Christ as their only hope, they are supposed to believe it to be saved. They are not supposed to walk an aisle, or ask Jesus into their hearts. Neither of these are the Gospel, and neither can save. Believing/trusting God’s testimony of Jesus, What Jesus sufficiently accomplished for us, and promises to whosoever believes is what saves.
Many, many pastors have done a terrible job all across the country at keeping the Gospel clear and oftentimes backload or frontload works into their messages making it a double bind confusing message. Oftentimes they unwittingly prevent unbelievers from believing the Gospel, because it’s been added to from the pulpit by the pastors, who they themselves are repeating what their seminary professors or some other pastor teaches; rather than what the Word of God says. They add to the simplicity that is in Christ.
Do you believe the Gospel, or are you trusting somehow that what you do or don’t do will somehow make you good enough to be righteous?
The Scripture testifies to us that no one is righteous. We all have sinned and fallen short of God’s perfection. Only Jesus Christ who is God in the flesh is perfect. He shed His perfect spotless blood for us so that our sins would be forgiven. Trust Him for His payment for your sins. He guarantees you eternal life if you believe He did that for you. He rose from the dead fir you. He is the living Savior. The Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world. Do you believe this????
Repent doesn’t mean repent of your sins, it means change your mind from unbelief to belief.
Be comforted by the verses below. If salvation were hard, none of us would make it.

John 3:13-18 15 –
13 And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.
14 And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:
15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.
16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.
17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.
18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

1 John 5:10-13-

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.
12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.
13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.
